 Governor Pen Portraits

  • I have served on the governing body as ‘Community’ or ‘Co-opted’ governor since 2008 and have maintained the strong links between St Michael’s and the school. In my previous career I was a secondary school teacher. My two girls have both been pupils at BHHJS. Personal interests include quilt making, singing, and tennis.

  • “Having spent over 5 years as both a governor and PTA chair for my older children, I felt that the opportunity to get involved with BHHJS was something I couldn’t let pass. As a keen conservationist with a passion for the environment and sustainability, I am hoping that I am able to help the school and the children further their knowledge and strategies relating to this issue.”

  • I am currently the Headteacher of Black Horse Junior School, where I started in 2018. I qualified as a teacher from John Moores University in 1999, specialising in Physical Education, which has always been a passion of mine. Since qualifying, I have worked in a range of schools, from the most affluent to the most deprived areas of the North West and have taken on a number of different subject leader roles. Before joining Black Horse Hill Juniors, I was deputy head at a school in Cheshire West for 7 years. Outside of education, I relax by painting portraits and gain valuable head space by running and cycling. I enjoy playing and watching most sports.

  • I have taught at Black Horse Hill Junior School now for nearly 20 years. I trained and qualified at Edge Hill College, after studying for a Geography degree in 1997. Following this, I taught in Ormskirk for 6 years before taking up my appointment on the senior leadership team at BHHJ. Outside of school I love to spend time with my family, going on walks with our collie and watching a variety of sports.

  • I have a son in year four and my daughter is currently in the infant school. I am currently part of a senior leadership team for a CQC outstanding domiciliary care company. I lead recruitment, retention, and training. I am also the HR manager for the company and a student nurse mentor for Chester University. I love the fact the school is person centred and feel I with my background in person centred care, I can provide the school with support when positive changes are implemented. Equally can challenge the school if required.

  • It is a privilege to serve on the governing body and be able to contribute to the school and help ensure that all children thrive and grow, both academically and personally.

I have three children; one who spent seven rewarding years within Black Horse Hill schools and is now at secondary school, one in year four and another who is currently in year two in the Infants School and will be joining the Junior School in September 2022.

I am proud to work in the NHS as a Biomedical Scientist. I currently manage two scientific laboratories which has given me the opportunity to gain experience in budgets, health and safety, data analysis, managing staff and human resources.
